Ernst Ehl

Von Werthstraße 16B, Köln / Cöln, Rhine Province or Rhenish Prussia, Prussia (now Cologne, Rhine-Westphalia)
"Porzellanmalerei und -grosshandlung Ernst Ehl" (Porcelain decorating company and ceramic's wholesaler).
Established 1889.
Known dates: 1889 ~1930.

The German spelling for the city of Cologne varied over the years. In 1900 the Prussian Minister for Interior Affairs issued an edict that the correct spelling for Cologne was Cöln. However, on the 1st February 1919 the mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer, stated the official name was (again) Köln.
Probably most people continued to use the spelling they preferred.

The company Ernst Ehl purchased steins from: Villeroy & Boch - Mettlach .
