Otto Obermeier
Munich, Bavaria
Künstler / Decorator
Otto Obermeier (23rd July 1883 in Munich to 14th December 1958) was a Graphic and Fine Artist and Illustrator. He was trained at Munich's School of Applied Arts from 1905, and subsequently at the neighbouring Academy of Fine Arts under Gabriel von Hackl. To finance his studies he had published a range of postcards with comedic themes, together with other illustrations commemorating the Wittelsbach dynasty and the yearly Octoberfest. Some of his work covered Munich's tourist industry, but the major part was supplying posters advertising Munich's breweries, many of which were still being used in the 1950's. There is currently an Otto Obermeier resident at Frundsbergstraße 14, Munich, who is possibly a grandson, who practices architectural fine art. He supplied designs to Albert Jacob Thewalt.
